De sluiers van Inanna

Het thema van deze serie is de weg die de Sumerische godin Inanna aflegt de onderwereld in. De weg die zij gaat is een universeel proces van verandering en transformatie. In het Sumerische gedicht besluit Inanna de onderwereld in te gaan om haar zuster bij te staan in de rouw om haar echtgenoot: Zij ‘bracht haar hart van de hoogste hemel naar de diepste diepten der aarde’, ‘ verliet hemel en aarde, en naar de onderwereld daalde zij af’. Om af te kunnen dalen in het rijk van de onderwereld moest Inanna eerst alle aardse vermogens afleggen, hetgeen verbeeld wordt door het afleggen van haar vele sluiers. Een risicovolle onderneming, die uiteindelijk leidt tot het vermogen om terug te keren in het daglicht of anders gezegd ‘het levende’.

Krachtig, kwetsbaar, doorwerkt en omgevormd tot prachtige kleurbewegingen maakt het het transformatieproces zichtbaar en niet in de laatste plaats beleefbaar.

The veils of Inanna

The theme of this serie is the path that the Sumerian goddess Inanna takes into the underworld. The path she takes is a universal process of change and transformation. In the Sumerian poem, Inanna decides to enter the underworld to assist her sister in mourning her husband: She ‘brought her hearth from the highest heaven to the deepest depths of the earth’, ‘ left heaven and earth, and to the underworld, she descended’. In order to descend into the realm of the underworld, Inanna first had to shed all earthly faculties, which is represented by shedding her many veils. A risky undertaking, which ultimately leads to the ability to return to the light of day, or in other words ‘ the living’.

Powerfull, vulnerable, worked through and transformed into beautiful color movements, it makes the transformation process visible and, last but not least, experienceable.
